Understanding when to accept an offer of settlement is an extremely important aspect of achieving a property settlement that meets the needs of you and your family.

Receiving an offer of settlement

There are two types of offers of settlement, Made and Received. Made is the offer that you make to the other party and Received is an offer that the other side has made to you.

Making an offer

Upon receiving an offer to settle, our family lawyers will advise you of:

  • The offer made by the other party
  • The estimated costs outstanding to complete your matter
  • The costs (both already paid and outstanding) incurred up until the time which the offer to settle was received

Should I make a counter offer?

It is often constructive to make a counter offer. A counter offer is an offer made in reaction to an initial offer of settlement made by the other side.
